The Challenge of Mixing Sport and Study in Modern Ireland
Increasingly the sporting world of young athletes is mirroring that of the role-models they idealise. Nutrition, diet, gym programmes, on-pitch and off-pitch session demand a huge amount from our children at a time when they are navigating their way through the rocky roads of Junior Cycle and Leaving Cert. Blending sporting and academic demands is difficult for these kids and their parents, who understandability wish to support them in both aspects of their lives.
Since 2024, The Tuition Centre has supported young athletes and their parents across the sporting spectrum through their TeamUP programme. The programme provides free online and on-demand Maths Tuition from 1st year to 6th year to all participants in the programme. Over 3000 athletes across almost every County in Ireland are signed up to TeamUp, reducing their academic stress and that of their parents.
Webinars are provided throughout the year to further assist students. These webinars deal with issues such as study skills, coping with stress, coping with dyslexia and much more.
Cork Camogie are the latest to join The Tuition Centre’s programme bringing the total number of sporting organisations currently participating to over 50, just 6 months after the launch of the programme by Principal Dan Sheedy.
